Hello everyone, my name is Andrew. I am a nerd and an engineer. So welcome to Nerdgineer, the blog where I share the details of my journey called life as I attempt to understand life as a whole.
I married a beautiful woman named Melinda, and we have two wonderful children. We are just a typical Sydney family, minus the pets. However we probably have a few too many possessions and are looking to downsize and minimise.
After many years working hard, buying a house, getting married, and doing all those things that we are taught to do, I have become disillusioned with life. However I realise that I can not continue like this and need to do something about it. I want to change my way of thinking, and learn to accept the life that I have built for myself, and be happy with what it becomes.
I want this blog to document my journey from disillusionment
This blog documents my journey from disillusioned to enthusiastic about life. It will show the highs and the lows, the good days and the bad days.
My journey back to cycling
I wasn’t always sedentary. As a teenager, I was a competitive swimmer, and I loved the feeling of pushing my body and seeing what it could do. After getting married in 2011, I discovered cycling and fell in love with it all over again. For a couple of years, I rode regularly and felt great. But then life happened – parenting demands took over, and the bike ended up gathering dust in the garage.
Fast forward to 2024, and I found myself at my highest weight ever. That was my wake-up call. I knew I needed to make a change, not just for myself but for my family.
In November 2024, I started on Wegovy, commonly known as Ozempic, and the results were great – I lost 22kg. However my GP was concerned I had lost enough weight.
In July 2025, I took another step and had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy with my wife. I have lost an additional 23kg since that surgery, and continuing to lose weight.
