My wife’s birthday

23.04.2021 by Andrew

  • Prep: Hot Shower
  • Prep: Phoenix Shaving – Cube 2.0 Scentless
  • Brush: Stray Whisker – 452/24 Synthetic
  • Razor: Edwin Jagger – DE89
  • Blade (Head): Derby Extra (1 shave)
  • Blade: Parker Premium Platinum (1 shave)
  • Lather: Phoenix Shaving – Clubguy – Soap

My second head shave using a DE razor. Again not a perfect result, have too many lumps and bumps up there to smooth over. I tried my EJ razor over the milder Wahl razor, got a little closer I think, but could still get closer again with a less mild blade.

I’m still having trouble keeping a consistent angle to make sure I cut hair all the time. I guess that part of head shaving comes with practice.

The face shave at the same time was a simple two pass shave. Smooth results, no nicks or cuts. The alum block noted a few locations which were ultra close as normal. But otherwise a great shave all up before the weekend.

First head shave

My first official DE head shave. My wife assisted me on the weekend with a head shave using a cartridge razor, and today I took the plunge to try something new and give myself a DE head shave.

Started with my mildest razor and blades I own, I’ll work my way up to find what works for me. Not the smoothest headshave, might have to give my EJ a whirl on my head, but it might also just be a matter of getting the right angles down pat and mapping the grain. I’ll give it another try in a few days and see how we go.

But for a first attempt on my own, definitely can’t complain.

Do I shave the head?

  • Post Shave: Proraso – Alum Block
  • Post Shave: Phoenix Shaving – Clubguy – Aftershave

Yesterday was hair cut day. But at my daughters request, she asked for a super short head shave. Not a smooth DE shave, but a number 0 with the clippers. Maybe I’ll brave the a DE shave on the noggin soon.

But today, I decided a face shave was required to compliment the short hair cut. Also a morning shave for a change rather than my usual evening shave. Only two passes this morning. WTG and XTG. The shave soap was a little thick this morning. Clearly didn’t add enough water for the first pass. A little extra moisture for the second led to a smoother soap for the second pass. Nice result in the end, and maybe I’ll pluck up the courage for a head shave in the near future.
